Every term, each of the interns has an opportunity to go on a ride-along with one of the Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) pilots for the day.
MAF is an international Christian organization whose mission is to fly light aircraft to bring help and hope to people in some of the world’s poorest communities.
The MAF-Uganda office has been operating since 1986 and works in partnership with national church groups, mission groups, development and relief agencies and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
We share our office building on the airfield with MAF and love getting to work so closely with them to further the Kingdom in our own unique ways. Many of the staff are our neighbors and close friends and we enjoy sharing lunch together at the office and worshiping together every Friday morning. I couldn't imagine my time here at EMI Uganda without MAF.
The flight I got to take traveled to the northeast of Uganda from Kajjansi -> Soroti -> Moroto-> Kabong -> Kotido -> Kajjansi. We had drop offs in Soroti and Moroto and pick-ups in Kabong and Kotido.
Flying into rural airstrips was an interesting experience. Between goats and animals on the strips, to women just laying in the grass next to the runways, to boda-boda crossings, to strips that looked like nothing more than two tire paths in a field, it was a testament to the skill and experience of the pilot who navigates these runways regularly.
